Captain John Holbert and his wife Jill purchased the Merrie Ellen in 2007 and started a three year restoration of the schooner.
The captain has a U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton Masters license and sailing endorsement.
A sailor since the age of 12 John built his first boat. He and Jill have sailed together from highschool on aboard six different vessels. They built their home on the Hood Canal at Brinnon Washington and keep the Merrie Ellen in Pleasant Harbor between seasons.
Our all volunteer crew is made up of sailing enthusiasts who came aboard once for a charter and got hooked. Most come back as crew for a few trips each year and help with the off season maintenance. The pictures and story on this website show how deeply the captain and crew have gotten into the restoration project,
