Guests should not come aboard expecting to be entertained with an authentic culinary experience. We no longer serve hard tack and salted fish for every meal although coffee is still available. Jill seemed to think that fresh hot meals prepared in the two galleys or on deck in the bar-b-que would be better. In addition to the three squares snacks and hot and cold drinks are always available. A hot mug of hearty home made soup stew or chowder is available any time of day for between meal grazing.
Breakfast on board is your choice of continental or a full hot meal. The biscuits hot from the oven seem to be even better when served in the saloon warmed by the original 1922 wood cook stove. The main event of bacon and eggs or croissant breakfast sandwitches add to the aromas and soon guests congregate around the galley table. Some of the captains favorite times aboard are the still mornings at anchor having coffee on deck as the sun rises with the deck and rigging still wet with dew. Aboard the Merrie Ellen a hot "mug up" of your favorite hot drink is always available in the centuries old tradition of working sail. We carry a variety of juices and fresh fruits in season.
Ten o'clock each day until dinner our cook will have a hearty crock of soup, chowder, stew or chilli hot in the galley.
Lunches are served on the go most days on deck or in the wheel house. Soup and sandwitch fare always seems to work well while whale watching or sailing. Cold drinks are available any time from the deck cooler.
Dinner appetites after an active day on the water require special treatment for guests and crew alike. Typical menus of fresh seafood in season, lasagne or enchiladas are served with all of the trimmings. Ships stores include a variety of local beer and wines served in the evening. We are happy to accomodate special diets or menu requests with a little warning.
